"[user] is connecting..." and microphone stops working

When I am on a Pop call with multiple people, after a variable amount of time (sometimes seconds, sometimes a few minutes) my microphone will suddenly stop working. At the same time, one of the users on the call will be shown with the message "[user] is connecting...", permanently on the call.
Video, screen sharing, drawing on screen, audio in (i.e. hearing what other people are saying) - these all continue to work fine when this issue happens. It is just my microphone that seems to stop working because people can no longer hear me.
I am on a Macbook Pro, Mac OS Sonoma 14.5 (23F79). I use the Macbook microphone, Macbook speakers and Macbook's camera. I am on a wifi at home, my ISP is Zen Internet in the UK and I have fibre optic broadband. I am usually on a call with people in multiple countries such as Germany and UK.
If I leave the call and rejoin then everything works again... until the issue happens again, usually after seconds or minutes as mentioned.
Please help. This issue is driving me and my colleagues insane. Thank you.
